Dependencies (Tab)

Use the dependencies tab to create relationships between tasks.

For example: If Task1 & Task2 exist in a project and the start date of task2 should depend upon the finish date / percentage of completion of task1. This can be accomplished by setting a dependency on Task 1 from task2.

All Tasks:
The “All Tasks” box shows a list of possible tasks to set a dependency. Select a task then click the “Right Arrow” button at the bottom of the screen. The selected task will display in the Task Dependencies box.

Note: You may not set a dependency for a task that has been designated as a dynamic task - see Dynamic Tasks below.

Set task start date based on dependency:
Check “Set task start date based on dependency” to change the start date of the current task based on the dependant task of you choice.  (See Dependency tracking)

Dependency Tracking:
Check dependency tracking to automatically calculate the current tasks start date when a dependent tasks attributes are changed. You may not immediately notice a change in the current tasks start date because this date will be the first available day that work can be accomplished on the task. This allows all tasks to be edited at all times while still showing the dependant relationship in the Gantt charting. Adjustments to the start date will be based on the dependent tasks A: working days/hours, B: finish dates, C: percentage of completion and D: Expected Duration.

(Note: Version 2.01 The dependant date may not adjust until the first log is entered for the task that it is dependant upon. This is a known issue that is being addressed.)

Dynamic Task:
Check dynamic task to have the current task’s expected duration be calculated automatically by the current task’s children. (I.e. all tasks that are designated children of the current (See Child Tasks)

Note: A task that is set as a dynamic task can not have dependencies placed upon it.
Note: A task that is set as a dynamic task will not have time logs because its times are generated by its children instead.
Note: If you switch a task from a normal task to a dynamic task any current logs will be deleted as dynamic tasks do not allow for logs.
